Synopsis:
Inspired by the well-known 13th century South Tyrolean legend, here the conflict between the Dwarf King Laurin and King Dietrich is told from the perspective of Crown Prince Theo. Theo is 16 and far too small and weak for his age. Yet his father Dietrich desperately wants his only son to become a great conqueror one day. In order to fulfil such expectations, Theo undergoes all sorts of exertions. But the daily procedure on the stretching bench and his regular hours of training to strengthen his muscles don’t seem to be having any real effect. His father shows no interest in the fact that Theo is not only very clever but also demonstrates special powers of deduction. Just as he does not bother listening to his people, who have been suffering great misery since the dwarves were banished, meaning that no more plants will grow in the country.

One day Theo has an accident in the mountains and is rescued by Dwarf King Laurin. To show his gratitude, the prince is expected to gather up the huge number of snails that are ruining Laurin’s little garden. This marks the start of a friendship, which helps Theo understand what is going wrong in his father’s kingdom, and encourages him to pursue his own wishes and dreams.
