Synopsis:
The martial arts academy “Shaolin Tagou” is located right next to the original temple of Kung Fu in China. Founded in 1978, today its 35,000 pupils and employees make it the biggest non-state institution of its kind. Far away from their families, the children and young people there are drilled to become fighting machines, obliged to conform to strict rules and daily timetables that give them hardly any free time.

This documenary film portrays nine-year-old Xin Chenxi, who belongs to the school’s elite team and will not allow herself to cry, as well as 15-year-old Chen Xi, the girl at the school “who does not speak”. The silent girl has not seen her parents for years. And then there is 17-year-old Huang. She could no longer bear the drill and the corporal punishment at the school of martial arts and ran away after eighteen months. Now she lives in Shanghai, where she wants to start a new life for herself.
