Synopsis:
South Africa, after the end of Apartheid. Twelve-year-old Wonderboy is struggling to survive among drug dealers and criminals on the streets of Johannesburg. He wants to reach Cape Town and visit his mother, from whom he has been seperated for many years.

He encounters the sales representative Kobus, who is on the road with a delivery van full of "Rainbow Wax". Kobus, a former soldier in the army of the apartheid government, cannot forget the "good old days" when he was awarded medals for bravery and felt he was really "somebody". Now he suffers from the war veterans' syndrome and is unable to cope with life in the real world.

Wonderboy suggests a deal with this unapproachable man: he will guard the van's load, and in exchange Kobus can give him a lift to Cape Town. It is the start of a journey during which the two of them gradually overcome their mistrust and become friends.

Kobus begins to rethink his life when he discovers that Wonderboy's mother, an ANC-activist, has been imprisoned. She belonged to exactly the same group that Kobus fought against in the past. And when it turns out that she died tragically only before a few days before the end of Apartheid, Kobus begins to feel responsible for his actions as a soldier.
