Synopsis:
Alberto Morais’ considered second feature offers a telling take on contemporary Spain, as seen through the eyes of his teenage protagonist Miguel (Omar Krim) as he roams the streets with his two close friends Lola (Blanca Bautista) and Guillermo (Mikel Sarasa). When his elderly grandfather (José Luis de Madariaga), kept under lock and key in the family home, finds he cannot attend an old friend’s funeral he asks Miguel to take his place, handing him an army jacket that must be deposited at the cemetery. So begins a journey that takes Miguel, Lola and Guillermo both into the past and through a hostile suburban landscape where they seem all too invisible and alarmingly dispensable. Morais’ quietly compelling film looks at what it means to grow up in a world where adults appear too distracted to care and melancholy becomes a way of life.
