Synopsis:
Estrid lives a sheltered life. She goes to school, has friends, and trains as a figure skater. At the age of eleven, she has an accident. One night, while sleepwalking for the first and only time in her life, she falls out of the window – from the fifth floor. Miraculously, Estrid survives – but many years of doctor visits, physical rehabilitation, and psychotherapy lie ahead of her. Due to her physical limitations, Estrid is more dependent than ever on the help of her family. Estrid's spirit, however, is unbroken. She wants to live her youth, love, and see the world uncompromisingly. Figure skating and being well-behaved was yesterday. On the way to a new self-image of herself and her disobedient body, Estrid discovers dance as a form of expression to deal with her trauma. For more than six years, director Andreas Koefoed follows Estrid and her family through the process of healing. In his documentary he paints a multi-layered portrait of an adolescent who unconditionally demands her right to a self-determined life.
