The Schlingel team is optimistic about organising the festival’s 2021 edition (9–16 October). “I don’t think things can get worse than it was in 2020, and still we reached out to 13,000 viewers. Since we managed to do it once, we can do it again,” says festival director Michael Harbauer.

In 2020 FIFEM Montreal was one of the last festivals to physically take place before the world went into lockdown. One year later, the new edition marked the return of the ECFA Award to Canada. The winner was the Norwegian film SISTERS.
With a newly elected President and Board in November 2020, new objectives for CIFEJ have been set. Secretary General Mohsen Chiniforoushan: “I am hopeful that the current board consisting of highly qualified and experienced members with a dynamic, motivated leader will soon take CIFEJ to its next level.”
