BJF celebrates 50th anniversary

In 2020 BJF (Bundesverband Jugend und Film), one of ECFA’s long standing and loyal members, celebrated its 50th anniversary in several German festivals (Berlinale, LUCAS, Golden Sparrow). This celebration will have its apotheosis in two currently organised events: the Schlingel festival (10-17 October) and the Nordic Film Days (4-8 November).

As a central organisation for children & youth film in Germany, BJF is committed to young people’s interest in film, promoting film education, creativity, cultural participation and media skills through a variety of activities. With around 800 members, the BJF as a service provider offers a strong lobby and a lively network.

BJF celebrates its anniversary on their website with a collection of personal statements from partners and sympathisers, such as ECFA President Margret Albers: “I specifically appreciate BJF for its balance between conservation and renewal in their work for young audiences. I remember Intensive discussions during seminars and annual meetings, as well as the very colourful “meetings of the children’s film scene” as part of the Berlinale (especially in the Café am Neuen See)”.

In Schlingel BJF will be hosting lectures, work meetings, a party and a general meeting.  In the Nordic Film Days in Lübeck, on 6 & 7 November BJF will organise a state of the art seminar (From idea to film) and a festive get together for the national children’s film industry.

ECFA would like to congratulate BJF and their manager Reinhold Schöffel for their work and dedication. You’ll read more about BJF in an interview in the upcoming ECFA Journal.
