If you thought something was lacking in the Nordic young audience film distribution landscape, now that void has been filled by Smorgasbord Picture House. Head of the company Nils-Thomas Andersson explains what it’s all about…
The Smorgasbord Picture House distribution company was founded in 2019, as we believed the Swedish film market was lacking something at the time – a new distributor with high quality children and youth films as their main focus. Fast forward to 2023, we are now a boutique distribution company based in Sweden, acquiring and distributing between seven and ten titles per year, films from all over the world for the Swedish and Scandinavian markets. We work with live-action features, animated features, documentaries and short films. Our main target audience is always children and young people and we release films for theatrical screenings, festivals, VOD, non-theatrical and TV.
In addition to that we work very actively with school-cinema screenings and non-theatrical screenings together with municipalities, schools, libraries and youth & cultural centers. Therefore, for each title we produce study guides and other educational materials that are both inspirational and fun. We believe that in order to reach the audience we have to be where the audience is.
Our acquisitions consists of titles such as TITO AND THE BIRDS, HELLO WORLD!, YUKU AND THE HIMALAYAN FLOWER, MICA, LOS LOBOS, THE LITTLE BIRD, LA TRAVIATA MY BROTHERS AND I and DANCING QUEEN.
