SCHLINGEL goes Canada

FIFEM (Montreal Int’l Children’s Film Festival) is putting German films centre stage. After last year’s SCHLINGEL spotlight on productions from the Canadian province of Québec, the festival team is now curating a German focus in Canada.

WEEKEND REBELS

A total of 14 German titles are part of the section. Films like FRITZI – A REVOLUTIONARY TALE, WEEKEND REBELS, BUTTERFLY TALE and SIMPLY NINA can now be seen on the big screen in Montreal from 2-10 March, alongside a short film programme consisting of 10 German titles.

SCHLINGEL director Michael Harbauer will be on site as part of this year’s FIFEM Expert Jury. “We are delighted that FIFEM offers German shorts and features a stage far away from their country of production. Children’s films can set an example, showing that we in Germany should look beyond our horizons in order to realise how much interest there is in our culture and our way of life when reflecting on our actions. We hope that German films have the potential to also inspire people in Québec“, says Michael Harbauer.

The 29th SCHLINGEL festival (25 September – 3 October) is currently open for submissions via Filmfreeway. Deadline: 15 July (features) & 1 June (shorts).

The presentation of German films abroad is supported by the Saxon State Chancellery, the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung and the Goethe-Institut Montreal.
