Cinekid Directors LAB is a vital new coaching programme for directors with a dynamic children’s film project in advanced development.
Cinekid is constantly taking new steps to stimulate and support the production process of young audience cinema. After initiatives for script writers and producers, they now propose the new Cinekid Directors LAB, in which an international group of directors focuses on the final steps prior to pre-production, and the specific skills required for working with children. The LAB examines how to underline a director’s individual voice and style, how to establish a relationship of trust with young actors, how to immerse yourself into the world of children… With hands-on tailor made coaching, the LAB is intended primarily for projects developed within Cinekid’s successful Script LAB training programme. Cinekid Directors LAB 2021 took place from 12-15 April.
Nienke Poelsma (Head Cinekid for Professionals): “The LAB was born from the idea that there is a lack of training courses for directors, and directors of young audience content in particular. That is why we are offering a safe environment that allows directors to work towards the shooting, but also gives them tools on how to work with child actors, during the casting process as well as on the set. Last week felt like working inside a pressure cooker, but a very valuable one, according to the directors. This is a project to be proud about, but this would not have been possible without the support of Creative Europe MEDIA Programme and our loyal partners Netherlands Film Fund, Norwegian Film Institute and Icelandic Film Centre.”
