BAB’s ECFA Award goes to SUZIE IN THE GARDEN

With the Czech animation SUZIE IN THE GARDEN by Lucie Sunkova, the 16th edition of the Biennial of Animation Bratislava (BAB) puts up another nomination for the ECFA Short Awards.

For more than 30 years, the oldest festival of its kind in Slovakia every two years presents quality animation from around the world. This year’s edition (3-9 October) had 91 films in competition. The ECFA Jury picked SUZIE IN THE GARDEN, described by the festival as “an unusually calm story of a little girl overcoming her first little fears and discovering the world.”

The ECFA Jury were Ľudmila Cviková (Slovakia / the Netherlands) and Ditte Lundsgaard Nielsen (Denmark).

The award of the Children’s Audience went to THE FALL (by Desirae Witte, Canada). Other remarkable winners were GRANNY’S SEXUAL LIFE (Best Animated Short; by Urška Djukićn & Émilie Pigeard, Slovenia), ONCE THERE WAS A SEA (Best animated film director, by Joanna Kozuch, Slovakia) and EASTER EGGS (UNICEF Award; by Nicolas Keppens, Belgium).
