Founded in Vilnius in 2001 by Lithuanian producer Rasa Miškinytė, ERA FILM is known for producing international documentaries. They (co-)produced more than 30 films, with partners and broadcasters from around the world, and in doing so, they didn’t lose sight of the young audience. (Photo: BREAD WITH NAIL)

KATU KATU

The first film produced by ERA FILM was THE BUG TRAINER (by Linas Augutis, Rasa Miskinyte & Marek Skrobecki, 2008), a partly animated documentary about the forgotten genius Ladislas Starewitch, which was screened at numerous festivals. Another remarkable title was EXEMPLARY BEHAVIOUR (by Audrius Mickevicius & Nerijus Milerius, 2019), awarded with a Golden Dove at the DOK Leipzig festival. TRAIN (by Maciej J. Drygas, 2024), a co-production with Drygas Film Production (Poland), won the Best Film and Best Editing Awards at IDFA, where the film celebrated its world premiere.

Projects for children and young audiences hold a special place at ERA FILM. With short animated documentaries like THE LITTLE BOAT and KATU KATU, director Giedre Narusyte Boots reached out to the very youngest audience.

ERA FILM is currently working on a large-scale, prestigious project for 10+ audiences. The concept of the animated documentary mini-series (3×17) DISPLACED CHILDHOOD in co-production with Zenit Arti Audiovisive (Italy) and Casablanca Film Production (Slovenia) was developed by Rasa Miškinytė and Giedre Narusyte Boots. Giedre Narusyte Boots: “Through the theme of ‘migration’, we connect different generations who share similar experiences, illustrating how history repeats itself. We try to bring a historical reality closer to young audiences through playful animated interludes, while dealing with serious subjects. We hope to expand DISPLACED CHILDHOOD by including more stories from different countries, highlighting the universal impact of childhood displacement.” Therefore, ERA FILM has chosen the right time to join ECFA and further expand its international network.
