In and around Valencia MICE will soon celebrate its 5th edition (19-26 February). What began as a toss-up, a humble way to share the work of the ‘Jordi El Mussol’ Association with friends from around the world, in 2017 it has become a leading event with a fast growing circle of influence. This interdisciplinary project is crossing borders and aspires to become a constant factor in its work field.
With its profile of fun and colourfulness (and without elitism) MICE perfectly corresponds with the idiosyncrasy of its place of birth, Valencia. It’s a key event for everybody who, from a professional, academic or family perspective, wants to explore a world that is no longer the future but the present reality: audiovisual education in the cross-section of writing and reading images.
“A modern and universal education, rooted in social change and striving to get installed in classrooms in a natural way, and methods equally based on formal and non-formal education, are at the root of MICE (Mostra International Cinema Educatu),” says Festival director Josep Arbiol.
The festival has already expanded its territory to seven communities, all the way from Valencia City to the Estivella summer residence, while the decentralisation with MICE Madrid will have its second edition. MICE will be present in twenty-one districts, all the while working on its international representation by building bridges to Asia, Latin America and several European countries.
Josep Arbiol: “In the city of Valencia, MICE will have a different residence every year. This year The Cabanyal and The Canyemelar are the frontrunners to light the flame of cultural revitalisation in the city community. We close the show in The Eliana on Sunday 26 February in order to decentralise the event every year we would like to see it expand and to reverberate in all the Valencian counties. We’re showing to the world the work we do as Valencians, embracing the foreign influences that make us more cosmopolitan day by day.”
