The French-German co-production ANIMAL TALES OF CHRISTMAS MAGIC celebrated its German premiere in September as part of the MICHEL Children & Youth Festival in Hamburg. The film enchanted young and old alike with its visual richness, its festive atmosphere and gentle narrative style. With ECFA member Luftkind Filmverleih as one of the co-production partners!
ANIMAL TALES OF CHRISTMAS MAGIC is a unique animated film project that brings together young award-winning female directors from different countries: Caroline Attia Larivière, Ceylan Beyoğlu, Olesya Shchukina, Haruna Kishi, Camille Alméras and Natalia Chernysheva. The film consists of five chapters, each written and realised by a different director in her own style. The five stories are brought to life in digital 2D animation, inspired by traditional techniques such as paper cutting, linocut, watercolour painting and Japanese parchment printing. The original interludes and the enchanting soundtrack by Pablo Pico (SIROCCO AND THE KINGDOM OF THE WINDS) make the chapters flow together in a humorous and poetic way. This extraordinary Christmas film fits perfectly for a first cinema visit, and shows how much artistic freedom the animated genre can offer – even for the youngest audience.
ANIMAL TALES OF CHRISTMAS MAGIC was produced by Les Valseurs, in co-production with ARTE France Cinéma, Luftkind Filmverleih, Le Bureau, Pulp and Gao Shan Pictures. Little KMBO will release the film on 27 November in French cinemas while Luftkind Filmverleih will hit the German cinemas one week earlier, followed by Austria and Switzerland. The German release is supported by MOIN and FFA.
