It is no small matter to include a prestigious event such as the Giffoni Film Festival in the list of festivals that hand out ECFA Awards. In return, the festival immediately added a wonderful title to the list of nominated films.
The ECFA Jury in Giffoni made a choice that will please the youngest audiences, and awarded the animated film TALES FROM THE MAGIC GARDEN, by David Súkup, Patrik Pašš, Leon Vidmar and Jean-Claude Rozec (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, France). The film tells of Tom, Susan, and Derek, who visit their grandfather for the first time after the loss of their grandmother. The house seems silent and their grandfather distant, but inspired by the memory of grandma, Susan transforms into a storyteller and brings extraordinary tales to life that restore the warm family atmosphere. Before they even realise it, the children are captivated by a mysterious cat, a not-so-scary monster, and a flying man.
”The aesthetics of the animation are both original and magical. The authentic story powerfully captures the close bond between grandparents and grandchildren, as well as the imagination and fantasy that live within us all. The film sensitively addresses important themes in a way that we believe will resonate across generations,” said the ECFA Jury at the Giffoni Film Festival: Markéta Pášmová (Czech Republic), Timothé Brocard (France), and Mathea Roland (Norway).
