Film Education Conference 2026 in Porto

From 9–11 July 2026, the Universidade Católica Portuguesa will host an international Film Education Conference in Porto. The event aims to bring together researchers, educators, and practitioners to exchange research and best practices on film education and media literacy.

Katia Cordas (Universidade Católica Portuguesa): “We hope that this conference will become an international platform for dialogue between researchers and practitioners from around the world to share their reflections on the field of Film Education. There are not many university-led events dedicated to this topic in our part of Europe, so we would like this initiative to grow.”

That’s why a Call for Abstracts is open until mid-March, and researchers and practitioners from diverse backgrounds are warmly encouraged to submit proposals and contribute to the dialogue between academia and professional practice.

The conference welcomes contributions from academics as well as professionals working in education, NGOs, cinematheques, national agencies, and other institutions involved in film education. Participants will have the opportunity to explore approaches and exchange tools and methodologies.

The programme will include keynote presentations by Mark Reid (BFI) and Andrea Reisz, representing the work of the CinEd initiative and recent projects by the Contrasens Association focusing on inclusivity and accessibility.

Those interested in presenting can consult the Call for Papers on the conference website, and all members of the film education community are warmly invited to attend the event in Porto this July.
