Synopsis:
David and Emily are inseparable best friends who have lived all their life on a caravan park. When David learns that Emily is being forced to move away, he agrees to help her hide out in a remote cave on the coast. But their innocent secret soon becomes complicated, as David watches the police start to close in on his missing friend. When the real reason Emily wants to escape comes to light, David's world is shattered. Swept up in a situation out of his control, and with his feelings for his best friend growing stranger by the day, David is forced to take action.

Written by playwright and Skins collaborator Jack Thorne, The Scouting Book for Boys is set in a holiday caravan park on the Norfolk coast, where teenagers David and Emily have grown up together, often relying more on each other than on their parents. Their lives are thrown in the air one day when Emily disappears. David is lost on his own, and as a search for her begins the film becomes ever deeper and darker. Focusing closely on the teenagers' experiences, the film depicts both their anxiety and awkwardness alongside moments of fun and recklessness in a sensitive and genuine way, allowing the audience to follow the story both from the things said and other things far too important to voice out loud.
