ECFA Awards in Filem’on

The Filem’on Festival in Brussels each year has the gathering of two ECFA Juries: one for shorts and one for doc’s. Participating in this year’s ECFA Juries were Franzeska Ferdinand (Int. Short Film Festival Oberhausen, Germany), Joris Van Dael (KidsCam, Belgium), Jitendra Mishra (Smile Foundation, India), Julia Jarl (BUFF Festival, Sweden) and Felix Vanginderhuysen (ECFA, Belgium).

The ECFA Doc Award went to CHAMP by Cassandra Offenberg (the Netherlands), about 14 year old kickboxer Esma, following her dream of becoming a champion.

The ECFA Short Award went to LOLA, THE LIVING POTATO by Leonid Shmelkov (France/Russia, no dialogue). When Lola’s family is forced to leave their house forever, it is time to let go of things and to understand that love over the years can fade away. As the jury stated: “In a playful and emotional manner, the film describes the life of a young girl creating her own fantasy world to escape from the threats of reality.”

Filem’on also hands out a CIFEJ Award, presented to TOO FAR AWAY by Sarah Winkenstette (Germany).
