Creative Greece – new, uber-actor on Cultural & Creative Industries

Do you want to know what film productions take place in Greece? Maybe shoot your film in a perfectly idyllic Greek location? Or develop training for media and film professionals? Or maybe, practice film and media literacy in schools for students and/or educators? Then look no further…

Meet now the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Centre – Creative Greece S.A., the new national organisation supervised by the Ministry of Culture. This Athens-based public body is the outcome of the merger of the Greek Film Centre (GFC) and the National Centre for Audiovisual Media and Communication (EKOME) – both members of ECFA. Creative Greece aims to establish a coherent national policy for the fields of audiovisual, film and creative policies to highlight Greece’s modern cultural identity, notably through the use of new technologies and innovative media.

Main agencies of Creative Greece are:

Cash Rebate Greece: a framework for attracting and supporting investments in the audiovisual industry through three distinct aid schemes, Film & TV, Animation and Video Game Development.

Hellenic Film Commission: promoting and developing Greece as an international filming destination.

Hellas Film: promotion and distribution of Greek cinema, domestically and internationally in film festivals, markets and special events globally.

Creative Hub GR: networking and building community development in the Cultural & Critical Industries (CCIs) to increase prospects of attracting European programmes, professional development and critical attitude towards screen media.

Cultural & Creative Observatory: monitoring data and recording statistics to facilitate planning of audio-visual, film and creative policies in Greece.

Creative Hub GR is the new Hub for Innovation & Technology that acts as a liaison to the CCIs in Greece and abroad, developing projects in technology and education, promoting and safeguarding national audiovisual cultural heritage and fostering media literacy among young people. The aim of the Hub is to support professional expertise, media production and media literacy on visual culture.

Main action fields of Creative Hub GR are:

– Cultural & Creative Observatory, for collecting and analysing statistics and data of the creative sector and publishing reports, strategy studies and policy documentation.

– Media, Creative & Audiovisual Literacy for developing a national strategy, supporting Greek and EU policies, and managing audiovisual, film education and creative literacy programmes in schools towards a critical and informed Media & Information Literacy citizenry.

– National Digital Repository of Audiovisual Works, for the conservation, documentation and promotion of Greek audiovisual and film heritage both from public sector institutions and private individuals.

Embracing the legacy of two experienced bodies in the creative industry (EKOME & GFC), Creative Hub GR of Creative Greece is now open to synergies on film production projects, entrepreneurship and training as well as media education for joint synergies and targeted interventions towards strengthening children and young people’s skills on critical thinking, content management and screen well-being, against the challenges of the digital era.
