Enfances au Cinéma offers workshops

The educational arm of the French organisation ‘Enfances au Cinéma’ has recently expanded its range of workshops according to a clear structure. This guarantees that all customers will find something to suit their needs.

Besides a children’s film festival and year-round school screenings, the Paris-based nonprofit organisation Enfances au Cinéma organises a wide range of cinema workshops. Maeva De Tastes (Enfances au Cinéma): “We are convinced that workshops encourage a more active approach to cinema, develop the participants’ critical thinking skills, and enrich their relationship with images. It’s also a way to make the experience more concrete, fun, and rewarding.

To create and find a workshop that meets your needs, we discuss the duration, theme, and structure with you and choose one type of workshop together:

  • A theoretical or practical workshop
  • A workshop around image analysis
  • A workshop around media education
  • A workshop around transversal arts (like cinema and books, cinema and dance etc.).

We can also propose a customised workshop led by a film professional, designed specifically for your needs.

Currently, we have 10 different workshops in our catalogue:

  • Animate your teddy bear: turn your kid’s teddy bear into the hero of animated adventures.
  • Light and shadow: explore the effect of distance on shadows (short or long, near or far) by creating shadow puppets.
  • Optical toys: discover optical toys, like the thaumatrope, phenakistiscope, or zoetrope, and understand the phenomenon of persistence of vision.
  • Dubbing and sound effects: understand how a film’s soundtrack works and explain the link between sound and image by creating a soundtrack.
  • Animated film: learn about various animation techniques to bring images to life.
  • Film and philosophy: analyse a scene and learn constructive criticism.
  • Silent comedy: discover the history of the early days of cinema.
  • Making a movie: how to make a movie? Learn about various jobs in the cinema industry and get a good introduction to acting – covering every aspect of the making of a film, from the screenplay to the storyboard, including the acting itself.
  • Special effects in film: disappearing, transforming, walking on walls, flying… discover special effects in film history and create a sequence using simple, easy-to-achieve effects.
  • Making a remake: The “sweded” sequence is a concept created by Michel Gondry in his movie BE KIND, REWIND. It consists of recreating a scene or film trailer using household objects, homemade props, and a lot of imagination. In this workshop, the concept is adapted to explore filmmaking.
