At the Schlingel festival, producer Philippe Budweg (Lieblingsfilm) presented a new title from the Outstanding Children’s Film production initiative. HORSE ON A STICK, by Sonia Maria Gröner, is now complete and ready to gallop into German cinemas from March 2026. Lieblingsfilm had previously produced young audience films such as WHAT THE FINN?! and INTO THE BEAT.
Sarah and her best friend have a video channel, but almost no followers. When Sarah accidentally discovers the world of “hobby horsing” online, in which young people perform dressage routines on fluffy hobby horses, she is fascinated. Sarah finds someone willing to train her, and spontaneously embarks on a trip to Finland to take part in a competition. Meanwhile, others involved follow in her footsteps during an entertaining odyssey.
With its strong comedic feel, amusing trailer, and interesting target audience, we are very curious to see whether HORSE ON A STICK will make an impression at international festivals as well as in German cinemas and claim its place in the Outstanding Children’s Film catalogue.
