Silver Forest

Original title: Silberwald
German title: Silberwald
Switzerland, 2011

Director: Repond, Christine
Production company: Dschoint Ventschr
Age recommendation: 14 years and up

Synopsis:
Sascha, 16, lives in a remote Swiss village in the Alps. He and his juvenile friends are bored and listless. Until they join a right wing group of Neo-Nazis and decide to destroy the newly built foreign asylum that has just been built on the fringe of their village.

Comments:
Silver Forest is a universal story that has wide political resonances with the growing pressure of issues with asylum seekers and racial tension in small towns. Above all, it looks at how young people's sense of play, sense of belonging and subjection to peer influence can lead them to become trapped in situations they don’t fully understand, and that are fully beyond their control.
