This remake of the classic French fairy tale by Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve is about Elsa, the beautiful innkeeper?s daughter. Her father Hugo has had financial worries for quite some time. There is great poverty in the country and hardly anyone can afford a sip of wine in the tavern. In order to pay the overdue rent, Hugo is forced to go to town and sell the last memory of his late wife and Elsa?s mother, namely her jewelry. On the way back he gets lost in the woods and finds shelter in a mysterious, deserted castle. But the next morning when he wants to pick a rose for his beloved daughter in the yard, he discovers that the castle is still inhabited. He encounters a huge monster, half man, half animal, who claims his life as compensation for the stolen rose... unless the desperate man brings him the creature who welcomes him first at home. Hugo agrees with relief because he knows that his dog is always the first to welcome him back. But this time he is wrong: it is Elsa, his only daughter...
