Vera Micaelsen R.I.P.

At the age of 43, Vera Micaelsen died on October 28 after a lingering illness. She was producer and programme director, columnist and devoted advocate for children and youth content on Norwegian radio and television, but mostly known among children’s film professionals as the good-natured host of the Work in Progress industry sessions at the Kristiansand Int. Children’s Film Festival.

In her last article in the national Aftenposten newspaper, she wrote a farewell to her junior readers: “I often try to convince my grieving friends that I am sincerely grateful for the experience of being seriously ill. Because not all is bad. On the contrary, it is a gift to receive all this warmth, so many hugs, so much love. Not everyone will have the pleasure to experience so much acknowledgement in one lifetime. The only thing that could top this, except getting well again, is that all of you would realize what a great gift life is, and that you turn towards those you care about and make sure they know how much they mean to you. Life is too short to be shy when it comes to saying “I love you”.

Our thoughts and condolences are with her husband Atle Knudsen and their three daughters. You’ll find Vera’s ‘memory page’ here.
