Winner of the annual ECFA Award for Best European Children’s Film: UP IN THE SKY!

The award was handed out to Swedish director Petter Lennstrand during the children’s film community party at the Berlinale. The runners up were CLOUDBOY (Meikeminne Clinckspoor) and MOUNTAIN MIRACLE (Tobias Wireman). With a record-breaking number of four nominations, UP IN THE SKY’s victory was surely justified. On the same occasion, the ECFA Doc Award 2018 was handed out to Robin Jensen (Norway) for his short animated documentary THE SHELTER. Both award winners received their prize from ECFA President Margret Albers and General Secretary Felix Vanginderhuysen.

In 2018 ECFA will launch a third award for Best European Young Audience Short Film of the Year. The first short film nomination will be given at the Short Film Festival Oberhausen (3-8th May).

In 2017, 15 children’s film festivals hosted an ECFA jury, each adding one title to ECFA’s shortlist. All shortlisted films competed for the final ECFA Awards, voted by ECFA’s members, all of them active in the children’s film industry.

You will find an interview with Petter Lennstrand in the next edition of the ECFA Journal. An interview with Robin Jensen was published in the 2017/4 edition.
