Two times ECFA at Filem’on

LENNO & THE ANGELFISH

Filem’on, the Brussels Children’s Film Festival, was brave enough to host two ECFA juries to decide upon one ECFA Doc and one ECFA Short Award.

The ECFA Short Award went to PROVENCE by Kato De Boeck (Belgium). “This beautiful coming-of-age story takes a nuanced look at the relationship between two siblings, on a crucial moment in their lives. By showing their teen experiences during the family holidays and the emotional developments they both go through, the director explores recognisable themes such as summer love, jealousy, insecurity and accepting ourselves and others for who we really are,” says the jury statement.

PROVENCE

The ECFA Jury were Astrid Kasperek (Lukas Festival, Germany), Alexander Sommers (Cinekid, The Netherlands) and Els Dethier (Kidscam, Belgium).

Winner of the ECFA Doc Competition was LENNO & THE ANGELFISH by Raphaëla Shamira (The Netherlands). “This beautiful film was praised by the jury for its sensitivity. The film didn’t seek to provide answers or solutions, it shared frailties and complexities and stayed in our mind long after the final credits.

The ECFA Jury were Joanna van der Meer (BFI, UK), Pantelis Panteloglou (Olympia Festival, Greece) and Belgian filmmaker Frederike Migom (BINTI, SI-G).
