The International Kids Film Festival – New ECFA member from India

The International Kids Film Festival (IKFF) was conceptualised and first organised in 2017 as a way of introducing children to good quality cinema from around the world in a place where they should feel comfortable – their school! In November 2018 the International Kids Film Festival was hosted by 4000 schools across 20 countries, enabling close to 2 million students to experience meaningful and engaging films from across the world on a protected online/offline platform.

The IKFF believes in strong partnerships with prestigious partners worldwide, such as Australia Fest (an initiative by the Australian Consulate and French Embassy in India) and renown festivals in Giffoni, Boston, Seattle, Providence, Yerevan and Frankfurt (Lucas). Festival representatives, together with Eminencies from the Indian film industry, were in the IKFF jury. In addition to the professional jury, this year IKFF had a children’s jury of 20 children from around the world.

The IKFF 2018 programme consisted of 93 films – 82 short films and 11 features – across genres. Among the winning films (granted with a substantial cash award) were LONG WAY NORTH (French feature animation), AHMAD’S HAIR (Dutch documentary) and UBUNTU (Indian live action feature).

IKFF hands out awards in three sections:

1) Watch Cinema: students watching diverse, meaningful world cinema in their school campus. A selection of specially curated films is sent to schools that have registered with IKFF, for online watching.

2) Learn Cinema: online filmmaking course for students

3) Make Cinema: Student filmmaking competition.
