It is 1930 and all the children are looking forward to celebrating Santa Claus. Just like every year on December 5th, Sint Nicolaas (the Dutch equivalent of Santa Claus) will be arriving from Spain with presents for everyone. Bennie Stout, an intrepid and naughty young boy has put a stepping car on the list of presents he’d like. But the thing he’d like more than anything would be to have his father come back home. It is a period of financial crisis and Bennie’s father has gone off to Spain in search of work. But can’t Santa Claus arrange for his father to come home so that the whole family can celebrate ‘pakjesavond’ together? That turns out to be more difficult than he thought, but Bennie thinks of a trick. He knows that Santa Claus puts naughty boys in his sack and takes them back to Spain. So he secretly adds his name to Santa Claus’ Big Book of Naughty Children.
