Original title: Millions
German title: Millions
Great Britain, 2004

Director: Boyle, Danny
Production company: Mission Pictures

Synopsis:
The North West of England, seven days before Britain will convert to the Euro. Seven-years-old Damian and his two years older brother Anthony live with their Dad - their Mum's dead, as Anthony likes to remind people when he needs an excuse, or a favour. When a big bag of pounds sterling literally falls from the sky, the pair decide the only course of action is to keep schtum and spend it pronto. but a quarter of a million pounds is a lot of money for two kids to spend in a week, and somewhere the bag's owners must have missed it. (London International Film Festival 2004)

Comments:
Nimbly scripted by Frank Cottrell Boyce (24 Hour Party People, Code 46), Millions is a sweet natured, wryly funny drama in which the brothers - one with nascent entrepreneurial skills, the other a kind hearted Samaritan - are delightfully convincing. Beautifully shot by Anthony Dod Mantle, who along with production designer Mark Tildesley worked with Danny Boyle on 28 Days Later, Millions affirms Boyle as a versatile director with a talent for coaxing revelatory performances from inexperienced actors. This new film has something delightfully British, or more properly delightfully Northern, about it. Imagine a modern day Ealing comedy set in Warrington, and you probably won't be too wide of the mark. (London International Film Festival 2004)
