Synopsis:
An adventurous story which centres around the young girl Friederike (10) and her friends who build a teleportation-device to beam her beloved uncle Mike back to the GDR, but accidentally beam all their townspeople into the West instead. Only quick thinking and action can undo the experiment and prevent the worst from happening. A race against time and the nasty local policeman begins.

Comments:
Director’s comment by Markus Dietrich: “When the Wall came tumbling down in 1989 and people were celebrating all over the world, I was ten years old – right at the heart of things. But it didn’t matter what the politicians thought, said or kept quiet at that time: for me, the fall of the Wall was more like a fantastic adventure than a world-changing event. And in my opinion, this makes SPUTNIK into what it is.”
