Synopsis:
Seven-year-old Osman has lived so far with his parents and his younger sister in the home of his grandfather in the southern parts of Turkey. But following a fight, his grandfather has turned his father and the rest of the family out of the house. So Osman’s father now wants to build a house for his family. But all the time he runs out of money for building materials, because there is hardly any work for him in the region. A friend advises him to emigrate to Denmark, to earn good money there. Osman can not imagine what it will be like to live in another country, far away from his friends. And above all, before he has learnt to play the saz, a turkish string instrument. He dreams of becoming as good and famous as his great idol, Asik, the blind singer. His father has promised to construct a saz for him. But he is always too busy building the house, and puts it off all the time. Then, in a heavy storm the unfinished house is severely damaged and a short while late, Osman’s sister dies in an accident. Sufficient reason for the parents to pack their bags and to move to a distant country. Osman is to stay for the time being with his grandfather. His parents want to fetch him later. But until that happens, seven years go by. (Lucas Filmfestival 2002)
