From Time to Time

Original title: From Time to Time
Great Britain, 2009

Director: Fellowes, Julian
Production company: Lionhead Productions
Co-producers: Ealing Studios International
Age recommendation: 6 years and up

Synopsis:
Tolly is sent to stay with his grandmother at Green Knowe, an old house which has been the subject of many mysteries over its long history. Initially, Tolly uncovers a number of these stories from talking to the long-serving staff, but is shocked when ghostly apparitions start visiting him, seemingly in order to help him piece together a number of clues that might, once and for all, solve the riddle of the missing jewels and the cause of the tragic fire that destoyed part of the house over a century before. Directed and adapted by Julian Fellowes, From Time to Time brings Lucy M Boston's Green Knowe stories to the big screen with a perfect balance of good humour, period detail and plenty of scares. It's impossible not to be enchanted by Maggie Smith and Timothy Spall, both on fine form; but the whole acting ensemble work seamlessly to achieve something that is very rare in recent years; a great British family film with a strong appeal to both children and parents alike.
