ECFA Doc Award for APOLLO JAVAKHETI

“We were deeply impressed by the honest and authentic way the main protagonist is portrayed by the filmmaker, in a poetic and strikingly coherent manner,” states the ECFA Jury at the doxs! festival, where an ECFA Doc Award was presented for the third time.

The winning film APOLLO JAVAKHETI by Georgian director Bakar Cherkezishvili (16’) focuses on a boy living under simple countryside conditions but determined to become an astronaut one day. What he lacks in means and resources he makes up with a great imagination. “Having both feet on the ground, while the head is in the clouds – APOLLO JAVAKHETI evokes a sense of wonder, which is cinema at its best.

The ECFA Jury were Stefan Huber (Austrian Film Museum), Felix Vanginderhuysen (JEF, Belgium) and German filmmaker Joya Thome (QUEEN OF NIENDORF).

In addition to the Doc Award the GROSSE KLAPPE prize, honouring political youth documentaries, went to OBON (Andre Hörmann) and is funded by the German Federal Agency for Civic Education.
